With the 8th generation of its iconic hot hatch, Volkswagen has decided to sell only the GTI and R versions in North America. The R badge first appeared on the 5th generation of the Golf, starting with the renowned MK4 R32. Since its release in 2022, Volkswagen has only offered the Golf R in three colors: black, white, and Lapiz Blue. As of April 2024, the R is available exclusively in its fully loaded, top-of-the-line trim, which includes all possible options (except for the Akropovic exhaust, a European option). It’s a straightforward formula: a car designed for enthusiasts—those who truly appreciate it—a true wolf in sheep’s clothing.
We picked up our MK8R and immediately wanted to customize it. Before receiving the vehicle, we visualized the upgrades through 2D renderings.
The vehicle comes with silver mirror caps, which are classic and iconic. However, to achieve a darker aesthetic, we decided to wrap the caps in gloss black vinyl. After comparing a few wheel style options, we chose the Vossen HF-5, a flow-formed twin-5 design finished in gunmetal. Additionally, the vehicle was protected with Suntek PPF.
